Eigenvector Research, Inc. is pleased to offer the Nineth Annual EigenU Europe. This year we are again headed to Montpellier, FRANCE where we will be staying at the beautiful Marriott Courtyard.

The 2019 edition of EigenU Europe has been expanded to five days and will offer our three-day Basic Chemometrics series followed by two days of specialty and advanced topics.

Complete information about the course can be found by following the links below.

Target Audience

Eigenvector University Europe is aimed at engineers, chemists and other scientists who want to be able to analyze their own laboratory or process data, develop their own data models or develop instruments that produce analytical data. It is especially well suited for those with an interest in process analytical technology (PAT) in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and process industries. The course serves individuals with a need for exploratory data analysis, development of predictive models such as analytical instrument calibrations, soft sensor models, multivariate statistical process control (MSPC), fault detection and sample classification. No prior knowledge is required for this course, although some knowledge of basic statistics and elementary linear algebra is useful.

Course Description & Outline

The Monday-Wednesday block of EigenU Europe will cover the fundamentals of many commonly used chemometric methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) regression. Emphasis will be on applying these techniques in the chemical process and laboratory environment for pattern recognition, instrument calibration, and sample classification. The course material is drawn from our popular Eigenvector University Series. The class begins with a brief review of Linear Algebra for Chemometricians, and moves quickly into Chemometrics I:PCA and then on to Chemometrics II: Regression and PLS. Aspects of Advanced Preprocessing methods will also be covered. The first three days will conclude with an introduction to Variable Selection.

On Thursday participants can choose between Non-linear Methods for Calibration and Classification or Introduction to Hyperspectral-Multivariate Image Analysis. The non-linear class will consider methods such as Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) as well as Locally Weighted Regression (LWR) and Hierarchical Models. The image analysis class focus on how multivariate methods such as PCA and PLS can be applied to image data. Aspects of classification and curve resolution will also be covered along with particle analysis.

On Friday our Bring Your Own Data (BYOD) Workshop will make its European debut. Particpants are asked to submit their data sets at least two weeks in advance, then we will go over them in class and show how we would approach them. Time permitting, the day will conclude with Common Chemometric Mistakes and How to Avoid Them.

Participants must bring their own laptops with current versions of Solo or PLS_Toolbox (and MATLAB) installed. Demo copies will work just fine. Users with Eigenvector accounts can download free demos. If you don't have an account, start by creating one. If you cannot provide your own comptuer, please contact us and we will try to arrange one for you.

About the Instructors

The courses will be led by Eigenvector President Barry M. Wise who will be joined by Eigenvector Associate Professor Rasmus Bro. Dr. Wise holds a doctorate in chemical engineering and is the creator of PLS_Toolbox. Each spring Wise organizes and teaches at Eigenvector University, the most comprehensive offering of chemometrics classes in the world. Wise, creator of PLS_Toolbox, has experience in a wide variety of applications spanning chemical process monitoring, modeling and analytical instrument development. Professor Rasmus Bro leads the Chemometrics Group at the University of Copenhagen. He has authored over 100 papers in the field of chemometrics and is receipient of the EAS Award for Achievements in Chemometrics and the Herman Wold medal.
